Issue No. 28 Romanticism

From this issue’s introduction…

There’s something about slipping on a $600 silk dress you scored for $65 before writing at your Facebook Marketplace antique French desk that feels very Clarice Lispector on the brink of spring: alive, in love, and desperately ready for the new season.

Despite having said silk dress and desk at my disposal, I don’t feel very Clarice—and not because I’m not an iconic literary figure like her or because it’s late summer rather than early spring (though I do miss the spring)—but because I’m sick. On the couch. In sweatpants and mismatched socks, still clinging to summer while fall presses its head through the door.

As Clarice writes: long before a season arrives, there are already signs. Sweet, nostalgic, unexpected signs pointing from the death of one chapter to the life of the next.

…..

To romance is to slow down enough to remember that you aren’t late, that you have time, and that beauty waits for you everywhere.

With this issue, we’re pulling you into that feeling, and allowing you to linger there awhile.

As always, we’ve put together a dreamy piece of snail mail for you to savor throughout the month. We open with the cosmic happenings ahead: astrologer Anna Hull guides us through the Pisces Lunar Eclipse on September 7th—a call to let imagination and creativity roam free—and the Virgo Solar Eclipse on September 21st, a reminder that our everyday rituals and duties are sacred and should be romanticized as such.

Our dating and relationships therapist, Amy Dong, shares an unconventional guide with tools to reconnect, rekindle, and replenish your sense of romance. We revisit a beloved interview with astrocartographer Alexandra Clark to fall in love with the places that have the power to shape us.

In our Pairs Well With… column, our Director of Partnerships Roya Shariat interviews Katherine Lewin, Founder and CEO of Big Night—a beautifully curated destination for joyful dining and hosting.

And, at the very center of this issue, is the steward of this very theme: We’ll also meet our muse, psychospiritual coach Sierra Lash, in a rich conversation about Romanticism, foundations, the future of business, being well-fed, and more.

Reader, my hope is that you slip on [insert your version of a silk dress or sweatpants here], carry this issue to a sun-soaked reading spot, and let it romance you into the new season, as the season’s light slowly fades. As Clarice would: savor it delicately, modestly, parsimoniously, each tiny crumb of everything. There’s no rush. You’re exactly where you need to be.

  • "I have recently left my job trying to figure out what is next for me, and these issues seemed to come at the perfect time - to show me what’s possible, to highlight women working in ways that are aligned with their gifts, and that are such a breath of fresh air and a far cry from the corporate hellscape I recently departed. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this. "
